Please
note that Jung has explained his use of 'libido' in an earlier section
of On Psychical Energy, where II. The Application of the Energic Standpoint,
(d) 'Energism' and Dynamism says that 'the word 'libido' I do not connect,
as I said, a sexual definition, yet it must not therefore be inferred
that I exclude a sexual dynamism, more than any other dynamism, as for
example the hunger instinct.' and that 'I called attention to my notion
of a general life instinct, termed libido, which replaces the concept
'psychic energy' that I used in the Psychology of Dementia Præcox.'
As such I use it as a term for our more mentally encompassing but not
necessarily metaphysical 'life instinct' myself.
