Lament
for the Makaris by William Dunbar. 1465–c.1520: |
Heill
is health and makaries poets. The poem's Timor mortis conturbat me
can translate as 'the fear of death disturbs me'.... Other translations of the 15th/16th Century phrases/words are available online. Dunbar was court poet to James IV of Scotland (who I didn't know was married to Henry VIII's sister Margaret). It's very insular: a bit like Presidential races, you know.... Abrecht's Morning Vista was chosen as an accompaniment to the work because I saw it as more of a sunset when I was browsing. |
