The resort's name, according
to its official Web site, comes from the Latin vallis, meaning
valley or mountain pasture. Isère is the name of the river that springs
from it. |

I lost a ski at point 1, and slid to
point 2. The French at the bottom (back on the piste) were very polite (almost
congratulatory); until they found out I was English. The pistes are around
points 3 and 4.... |

up the side of the piste at point 4 to retrieve my ski. |
